Aberdour Castle and Gardens

In the 1570s Aberdour Castle was home to James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton who was regent of the country. Meet the Earl and hear about the turmoil surrounding the Scottish court at this time and about what life was like during the later part of the 16th century and see some of the magnificent fashions of the day.

12 noon: The Regent Arrives James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton, arrives at Aberdour Castle to meet a number of Scotland’s leading nobles.

1pm: A Reformation Fashion Display Discover the Scottish fashion of the 16th century. Find out how status can affects what you wear and what your clothing says about you.

2pm: Knight’s School Are you ready to test your mettle in our Knight School? Young recruits will be trained in the art of 16th century warfare and put through their paces.

3pm: Trail By Combat As political fervour erupts to differing factions decide to settle things by trail by combat. Settle in for a combat display and weapons show and discover how battles were fought in the 16th century.
